Did you know that states including Arizona, Connecticut, Colorado, Maine, Illinois, Nevada, Oregon, and Virginia passed bills that allow students to miss school for mental or behavioral health-related concerns? These bills have been largely supported by youth advocating for change. School work and after-school expectations can be overwhelming and relentless. Coordinate consistent times when you allow yourself to take a break.

FIND TIME TO STOP

In the midst of movement coordination, sometimes it’s important to simply STOP. Take a moment away from the day-to-day to regroup and reclaim calmness. “But how can I do this?” you ask. After all, you have a family and a demanding job. Find the moments, or pockets of time, when you can make time for you. Do you have a couple of free hours on Tuesday afternoon? Do something fun for you. And don’t check work email or respond to work-related texts or messages. Don’t feel that you need to do an errand for someone else during that time. It’s just two hours—do only what you want to do.
